More Yellowstone Wildlife...

Another great day in Yellowstone…

It was cloudy and in the 40’s when we left camp this morning. We headed for Lamar Valley, and by the time we arrived in the valley the clouds had begun to break up. By mid morning we had sunshine and mild 60’s temperature.

We saw a herd of Pronghorn while in the valley. That’s the first time since we arrived in Yellowstone that we’ve seen more than one or two together. So of course we spent some time with them. We’ll include a photo of some of the herd; then another which is closer to show off their incredible markings. Also included is a very distance shot of a herd of Bison. Although not nearly the huge herds of yesteryear, there are a number of herds in the Lamar Valley which contain a hundred or more. What a sight to behold…

All the time we were with the Pronghorns we could hear wolves off in the distance. When we headed back toward Mammoth Hot Springs we talked to a gentleman who said they had seen the wolf pack near Sleuth Creek about an hour before we arrived there. Darn, we missed them again!

From there we drove back through Mammoth, and out to the Madison River. All along the way we saw Bison, Elk and lots of fly fishermen. It was a great day for fishing, as the weather had gotten increasingly better as the morning wore on. By the time we reached the Madison the temperature was in the 70’s, and very little wind.

However, as anyone who has been here knows, the weather changes frequently. When we went to bed last night the wind was rocking our 5th wheel like it was a toy. We felt sorry for those people sleeping in pop ups. They really had to be getting rocked around.. But then by morning the wind had stopped, or at least slowed to a breeze. And as I write this, the wind is howling again. Needless to say, we have not used our awning at all since we’ve been here. We figure we were lucky in Ventura when the wind pulled it away from the trailer. No sense testing fate again.

Well, thanks for sticking with us. Hope you’re enjoying the photos.
Fay
