A Side Trip to a Mining Town

Yesterday we took a little side trip to Jardine. One of our new found ‘camper friends’ recommended we visit there. It’s an old mining town, which is primarily abandoned, even though there are still a few residents. At one time, it was one of the largest and oldest gold and platinum mines in Montana.

We stopped briefly to speak with one of those current residents. He told us that the mine was last worked in 1993. Since then the mine and equipment has just been abandoned. Sal took some interesting photos of some of that old equipment and abondoned buildings. What a sight this small town must have been in its hay day.

Later that evening we headed back through Mammoth Hot Springs toward the Madison River. I guess we’ve finally seen enough wildlife to realize that there will always be another one around the next bend. So we started taking some vista shots along the way. It’s amazing to see the beauty which God has made, and totally impossible to describe.

We spent the day in the campground today. It’s been a gorgeous weekend. So naturally those people who are lucky enough to live within a short travel distance of Yellowstone flocked here for the weekend. Almost all the campgrounds inside and outside the park were full, as well as all the motels/inns. So we decided to just relax in camp today, and wait until the crowds cleared.

Assuming the weather is ok tomorrow, we’re planning to head for Old Faithful. We thought we’d just play ‘tourist’ tomorrow, stopping at each posted interest point between here and Old Faithful. And of course, take photos and video along the way.

Hope you are enjoying Yellowstone as much as we are …
Fay
