Another day on the road…I-5 from central CA is either dry and brown, or irrigated and green. So the scenery is nothingness (is that a word?), or agriculture. We’ve seen alfalfa and corn, and lemon, orange, walnut, and almond orchards.
Sal led off the morning drive, and I took over shortly after noon. We stopped for lunch just after 1:30; then back on the road. It was a fairly benign day until we hit Sacramento at evening rush hour. But we made it through it without any damage. Just don’t get in the way of a Californian rushing home from work!
If it sounds like a dull day, it was; just miles, and miles of freeway. Our only excitement for the day was finding our RV Park. I will say flat out that whomever the idiot was who wrote the Trailer Life Directory instructions should be fired. They were totally useless (and the park manager agreed with us). And since the road to which we were directed had been split by I-5, guess what. Our GPS got lost also. At one point we were on a country road, which continued to narrow until it was just about 6 inches wider than our 5er. And oh yes, it was not the road we should be on, and it was a DEAD END. Fortunately, there was a circular turn around at the end. For a moment there we thought we were going to be backing up the entire length of the road.
However, we did see orchard after orchard of almonds. It is harvest season for them. So as we roamed around lost for 45 minutes, we were able to see several stages of the harvest.
At long last, and after much laughter, we found our RV Park, and checked in a little after 5PM. It’s a nice park; lots of mature trees for shade, which are very welcome since the thermometer was still hitting 95 when we arrived.
All and all it wasn’t a bad day for the birthday boy. Yes, Sal is celebrating his birthday on the road today. We had a celebration with my sisters yesterday. So he didn’t miss out; the birthday God found him and left presents.
Back on the road tomorrow…Oregon here we come. Thanks for traveling with us…
Fay
