Heading to the National Parks

What a beautiful ride we had today!!! We left Spokane about 9:30 this morning, heading up I-90. Our route had to be changed at the last minute because of the fire in Idaho. So we drove to St Regis on I-90, and then took 135 to 200; and then 28, connecting to US 93 near Kalispell. We’re staying on Highway 2 just east of Coram, and only a few miles from the Glacier west gate. But we missed the fire completely, and skirted Flathead Lake for miles. What great views!!! But sorry, we did not take any photographs today. I guess that since our ‘friends and family’ phase of this trip is over, we were anxious to get to the National Parks as quickly as possible. So we did not stop to take photos.

Tomorrow morning we will move to St Mary, just outside of the Glacier East Gate. That will be our home away from home while touring Glacier.

But I’ll digress a bit. We had a great time in Spokane. Our dear friend and tour guide showed us the city highlights, and gave us the opportunity to do some shopping. We picked up some great Washington souvenirs in a beautiful shop called “Made in Washington”. If you need a gift while in Spokane, it’s a great place to find one. Of course it did not hurt to find items with moose accents as part of the selection, as we freely admit that we are crazy about anything moose related. But the “Made in Washington” shop has much more than just moose items.

While leaving friends and family behind is bitter sweet, we are looking forward to the beauties in nature which we expect the national parks to hold. We’ll break out the camera equipment in earnest after we get settled into our site tomorrow.

Thanks for traveling with us, and we hope we are successful in sharing the beauty we are about to discover with those of you who have stuck with us.
Fay
