Federal Building Memorial & Capital Building

Wow, is Oklahoma City an interesting place. We did the tourist thing as planned yesterday. But unfortunately there is so much to see that we can’t visit nearly as many places as we’d like in the limited time we have here.

However, we did go to the Memorial. I will not even attempt to put my feelings into words. Oklahoma has created a memorial which both respects the lives of those who were lost, while simultaneously looking to the future.

Interestingly enough, when we entered the area where the chairs are located, there was a momma Mallard Duck and her three babies sitting under one of the shade trees near the reflecting pool. Then we heard and read about the couple who both lost loved ones in the explosion, and how their losses brought them together. They were married under the Tree of Life near the reflecting pool. So from tragedy and loss comes hope for a brighter future.

I will admit that the Memorial Museum was very, very difficult to see. But I would not have missed it for the world. And being the softy that I am, I came off the second floor where the photographs and memorabilia were displayed, a total blubbering idiot. A nice lady handed me a tissue, and said, “You look like you need a hug.” And she gave me a hug.

From the Memorial we headed to the Capital Building. After a couple of fits and starts because we didn’t listen to GPS Lady, we found the Capital. It is a great old structure. The kind which will not be built again because we no longer have the talented craftsmen.

On top of the dome of the Capital building stands a 17 ft high bronze statue of a Native American. The other photo of the building speaks for itself. The craftsman ship is quite impressive.

We wanted to go to the Cowboy Museum also. But there simply were not enough hours in the day. Maybe we’ll find time before we leave. Tomorrow is another family day. Sal has two Uncles nearby, and we’re taking a little road trip tomorrow to see them.

Thanks for sticking with us…
Fay
